| This position is assigned to Imaging Service at the Kernersville Health Care Center. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computed Tomography) performs computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, body, and vessels. These exams are performed with and/or without the use of contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies to bring about proper diagnosis and treatment. As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computed Tomography), you will perform computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, body, and vessels with and/or without the use of contrast materials. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Schedule patients for examinations, advise radiologists or referring physicians of examination results, and notify them of scans requiring their immediate attention. Perform computed tomography (CT) exams to include neuro, angiography, including spine, head and neck studies utilizing highly sophisticated equipment such as pressure injectors, patient monitors, etc. Perform CT myelography of the complete spine when required. Perform most exams utilizing surgical sterile techniques. Adhere to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques with emphasis on sterile technique, the storage of sterile supplies, the disposal of body fluids and 'sharps', proper attire, hand washing practices, and continuing education. Work with the radiologist as a member of the surgical/radiographic team. Assist and anticipate the needs of the radiologist and the performance of the exam. Prepare contrast materials that are used in CT and other exams. Insert IV needles for administration of contrast material when necessary. Apply knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices, and techniques, including concepts of accumulated dosage, genetic changes, and effects of radiation on living organisms. Insure correct machine techniques to minimize such exposures, monitor the safeguards, and recognize when changes of equipment or procedures might result in increased exposure and recommend alternative methods to prevent such exposures. Perform reconstructions of CT and studies when requested or when part of a standard procedure. Properly identify patient images. Confirm that the patient I.D. band and the request are identical. Confirm patient identity by verbally confirming patient name and social security number or date of birth as required by JCAHO. Explain exams using population specific guidelines. Monitor vital signs as required by procedure or patient's condition, recognize allergic reactions, and initiate CPR. Make notes in patients' medical record when appropriate. Document the use of contrast media in the medical record. Responsible for stocking and inventory of all CT supplies and related materials. Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshoot equipment problems as they arise and confer with Bio Med to resolve equipment issues/problems. Perform basic scanner maintenance in compliance with brand specific specifications. Perform daily QA. Perform shut down when needed. Determine when a warm-up should be performed to lessen the effects on a cold tube. When problems occur, enter work orders and notify in-house staff or vendor to have problem repaired. Assist in the clinical and didactic training of students. Follow Safe Patient Handling Guidelines and use Safe Patient Handling Equipment when necessary. Perform continuing education to satisfy requirements for ARRT certification and maintain BLS certification.
