This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI) position is assigned to Radiology Service at the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Incumbent must be familiar with optimum performance of complex MRI procedures, and possesses specific knowledge in the location, appearance, function and inter-relationships of the various organ systems susceptible to MRI evaluation. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs exams in mobile, modular or permanent installation, safely transporting and transferring patients to scanner with the specific safety considerations of each unique environment. Trains new technologists in magnetic resonance imaging and in radiologic imaging. Recommends, coordinates and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols. Participates in the evaluation of new employees. Confers with radiologists to determine requirements of non-standard exams. Contributes major input in determination of technical factors, such as patient positioning, with/without IV contrast, modified imaging sequences, etc., to produce an optimum study and satisfy the specific requirements of the patient's MRI imaging needs. Works with the radiologist as a member of the Radiology PACT team. Also participates in quality assurance activities as required. Performs many exams and procedures utilizing clinician-prescribed oral sedation for certain claustrophobic, anxious, or large body habitus patients. Possesses knowledge, ability and the technical skills to inject patients with IV contrast material when required by the procedure. Adheres to the hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques with emphasis on sterile techniques; the storage of sterile supplies; the disposal of body fluids and "sharps"; proper attire; hand washing practices; and continuing education. Prepares IV contrast materials and demonstrates understanding of the effects and potential adverse reactions to the contrast. Performs image reconstructions on advanced workstations, as directed by the radiologists, as part of certain studies.
