The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) is currently recruiting one full-time Physician to serve as a Staff Anesthesiologist in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and general operating rooms. The anesthesiologist should have additional adult Intensive Care Unit experience, including fellowship training. VAPSHCS has a closed ICU model that is run by both surgical and anesthesiology-trained intensivists. The staff Anesthesiologist is directly accountable to the Chief of the Anesthesia Service Line and will provide the highest level of care throughout the medical center in compliance with VA and VHA Directives and the Joint Commission accreditation standards. The VAPSHCS Surgical ICU is a multi-specialty environment that includes an open-heart surgery program. The anesthesiologist duties include, but are not limited to: Attending in the ICU eight (8) to ten (10) weeks per year Provide a variety of services including, pre-operative assessment, intra-operative care utilizing MAC, regional and general anesthetic techniques on ASA Class 1 through 5 patients and post-operative care, including ventilator management within recovery areas and the ICU. Provide anesthesia-related, direct patient care in multiple facility locations, including OR, ICU, in-patient wards, ED and participates in call coverage. Supervise CRNAs and will have the opportunity to teach rotating medical students, residents and fellows. The Staff Anesthesiologist may also be involved in program planning, objectives, policies and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care.
