Work Hours/Shift: Full Time / Day
You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates, through behavior, Advent Health’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork.
Serves as a Medical Interpreter for a variety of functions (e.g. meetings, workshops, conferences, special events, medical settings, etc.) and covers assignments for AdventHealth service locations.
Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to patients, providers and other medical interpreters.
Assists in coordinating and conducting a variety of activities (e.g. interpreter workshops, interpretation activities, trainings, etc.) to provide information and education to team members.
Uses known education principles and up-to-date training methods and techniques to ensure selection of appropriate training methods (e.g. simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training, professional development classes).
Adheres to the guidelines of “The National Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care.” while promoting and contributing positively to inter-departmental relationships.
Adheres to AdventHealth policies on patient privacy and confidentiality, customer relations, hospitality, and the Interpreters Code of Ethics.
Collects data, preparing reports and presentations regarding day-to-day functions of the Interpreter Services team.
Responsible for orientation and onboarding of new Medical Interpreters and other team members as applicable.
Supports evaluation of new vendors and Interpreter Services processes
Performs other duties as assigned
What You Will Need: Education and Experience Required:
Associates degree in target language, general, business, interpretations, or equivalent
3-5 years of previous work experience as a Medical Interpreter or in a related field of interpretation
License and/or Certification:
All AH Medical Interpreters will have completed a medical interpreter training that DNV recognizes as “qualified” to provide medical interpretation in the hospital setting and/or they will hold one of the two nationally recognized Medical or Health Care Interpreter certifications. All new hires will be required to have certification recognized by DNV as “qualified” to provide medical interpreting upon hire or will hold a nationally recognized medical or healthcare interpreter certification.
Certification in (1) one of the following:
The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (CMI certification)
Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)
Legal Court Interpreter Board
The Lead Medical Interpreter is responsible for facilitating the development of Interpreter Services specific education through active participation in orientation, training, on-going team member development and support of patient/family education. Participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities to communicate policy revision, process changes and improve standards and performance expectations. The Lead Medical Interpreter operates under the direction of the Interpreter Services Manager, providing interpretation for patients and hospital staff in a variety of settings including patient care, meetings, workshops, conferences and special events. The Lead Medical Interpreter provides direction and guidance to the other Medical Interpreters, completing administrative duties as needed. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
