This position is located the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service, VA ECHCS. The incumbent at this level has full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of non-supervisory personnel, ensures timeliness of patient care and accreditation requirements are met on work performed on off shifts. The incumbent also performs a wide variety of laboratory tests on blood, urine and other body fluids. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Plans and schedules on-going work; defines bench assignments for optimum efficiency and workflow. Adjusts staffing levels or work procedures as needed. Chooses methods for achieving work goals, objectives, and management strategies Day-to-day supervision of highly complex test performance. Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance. Ensures corrective action is initiated when test performance deviates from established performance specifications. Ensures orientation, training, and competency assessment of staff. Conducts personnel actions as needed. Takes action in accordance with federal labor regulations and AFGE Master Agreement. Implements and monitors quality management activities, including quarterly reports to the P&LMS Quality Assurance Committee Performs the full range of supervisory duties.
