The Supervisory Health Science Specialist position is established within the Office of the Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development, which supports one of the largest research enterprises within the Department of Veteran Affairs; hosts significant activities in all four VA research programs as well as the VA Cooperative Studies Program; and supports VA research projects funded by the DOD, NIH and other industry partners. As a Supervisory Health Science Specialist you will: Establish, review, and coordinate of policies and procedures pertaining to strategic planning and compliance oversight for the Research and Development Service. Evaluate all health-related programs and management policies pertaining to the agency. Participate in long-term strategic planning and exercises delegated decision-making authority for resources management of the agency's Research and Development programs. Monitor the effectiveness of the interactive systems and procedures necessary to advance the VAMHCS research program scientifically in accordance with all principles, rules, regulations affecting research within the VA. Monitor the effectiveness of the interactive systems and procedures necessary to advance the research program in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services (NIH, FDA), Department of Defense (DOD, CDMRP, DHA) and other federal agency research rules and regulations. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for principal investigators and their staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Observes principal investigators and their staff performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Responsible for the management and administration of the Research Program and oversees all staff at the GS-13 level and below assigned to that program. Responsibilities include supervision of staff, professional management, and administrative responsibilities that are complex in scope. Occasional Travel to attend meetings at other Facilities.
