The Milwaukee Dental Assistant assists the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision. Duties: -Chairside Assisting Inventory and stock all dental cubicles for supply needs -Sets up operatory for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnover -Passes instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently -Keeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably -Prepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions -Accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols -Assists in routine general dental procedures -Assists in specialized dental procedures, such as oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontics -Dental Imaging -Dental x-ray images are characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed -Dental imaging safety techniques are utilized, and retakes are minimal -Imaging requests are accomplished within the desired time frame -Infection Control, Environmental Cleanliness and Equipment Sterilization -Demonstrates proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning up operatories -Instruments are properly prepared for sterilization by SPD standards -Replace disposable traps on a weekly basis and more frequently in surgical settings -Demonstrates proper infection control procedures in exposing x- ray images -Maintains clean water line protocol -Collect all mercury contaminated products and dispose in the appropriate container -Clerical Functions -Assists patients in scheduling appointments: contacts patients to reschedule, remind or change -appointments for patients. Notify front office of all appointments. -Must be able to make and alter appointments in VISTA and make notes in CPRS regarding appointments -Assists in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments -Assists dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in DRM+ -Check in patients and answer phones as a back up to the reception PSA -Obtain computer access and some Phase II training for new personnel -Monitor Time and Leave for ancillary personnel -Monitor computerized continuing education for the dental service through TEMPO Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
