The incumbent will be assigned at the Atlanta VA Health Care System working as a member of a disciplinary health care team, collaborating with other services to provide medical care to veterans enrolled in the VA Health System. The endontist will perform a full range of diagnostic and treatment functions normally performed by a general dentist, to include examinations, interpretation of radiographs, dental prophylaxis, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry and surgical extractions. Vital pulp therapies Regenerative endodontic procedures Non-surgical root canal therapy Selective surgical removal of pathological tissues resulting from pulpal pathosis Repair f root defects Intentional replantation Surgical removal of tooth structure such as apicoectomy, tooth sectioning, root amputation and extraction Treatment f dento-alveolar injuries Bleaching f discolored dentin and enamel of teeth Retreatment f teeth previously treated endodontically Treatment procedures related to coronal restoration by means of post and/or cores involving the root canal space Placement f bone graft and guided tissue regeneration where treatment relates to concurrent endodontic treatment Placement f retrograde restorations Diagnosis and management of orofacial pain including temporomandibular joint disorders The incumbent will comply with processes and procedures including infection control, OSHA guidelines, x-rays and oral health education, knowledge and application of HIPPA/Security regulations, and in compliance with VHA The incumbent must provide timely, accurate and complete record documentation utilizing the computerized medical record system. Provides appropriate consults and referrals to medical and dental specialists Maintains current certification in BLS and if required ACLS to provide emergency medical management. Must possess computer skills, have good work ethics and be a team player The incumbent will provide education and training to members of the medical and dental staff through various conferences, committees and lecture series. The incumbent may be assigned administrative r managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. Responsible for attending department, facility and education meetings that occur before and after clinic hours. This position will require excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals.
