The Social Worker (SW), Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) functions on a multidisciplinary case management team at the New Mexico VA Healthcare System in Albuquerque, NM. The SW serves Veterans with SMI, defined as any psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, chronic PTSD, or chronic MDD, with psychosocial impairments. This SW provides individually tailored services to meet the needs of the veterans on a one-on-one basis or in a group setting. The position and the Veterans Health Administration require that applicants be Licensed Master-level Social Workers. The Social Worker applicant must have the knowledge, skills and ability to complete psychosocial assessments and recovery planning. Additionally, the incumbent should possess or be willing to receive training in evidenced-based treatments such as Solution Focused or Strengths Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing/Enhancement Therapy, and/or Positive Psychology; psychosocial case management; health care coordination; suicide risk assessment and follow-up, individual and family counseling; social skills training, psychoeducational groups, facilitation of peer support and consumer advocacy programming, engagement in leisure and wellness activities patient and family education; and recovery planning with a population of Veterans diagnosed with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The goal of the PRRC is to utilize the Recovery Model to maximize the independent functioning, community integration and well-being of Veterans coping with the long-term effects of severe mental illness. The incumbent will work with an interdisciplinary team consisting of social workers, psychologists, peer support specialists, as well as a number of other professional and paraprofessional staff. The incumbent must possess a valid Driver's License. The position may require the incumbent to utilize an Alternate Work Schedule.
