This position is in the Social Work Service, Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center. Functions as a program and administrative assistant under the direction of the Chief of Social Work. Provides regular analysis and reports on outcome measures to maintain high standards as they relate to customer service, directives, GARF accreditation and quality improvement; provides the administrative foundation for social work programs to operate efficiently and effectively. Major duties include: Oversees the day-to-day management of the department including office systems and patient/family/volunteer/community workflow. Assists in preparation of discharge planning forms, reports, summaries and other statistical documents to fulfill program evaluation directives. Provides telephonic, and electronic communication to staff and Veterans. Provides information to patients and families as needed in order to establish initial linkages between patients and social workers to resolve problems and meet needs. Participation in outreach functions-helping with verification of eligibility and charting initial accounts of the veteran's current circumstances. Assist patients/families to help identify psychosocial needs. Assists the Chief of Social Work Service on Collateral assignments from VISN, ADR, and national committee activities. This may take the form of literature reviews and researching select topics, preparing reports, arranging conference calls, meetings, and travel. Assists the Chief with ADR process involves responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to communication with meeting designated parties, arranging selected locations at the VA facility and other areas acceptable to both labor and management. Crucial to demonstrate essential qualities: a reputation for confidentiality, honesty, trustworthiness, credibility, respect, good communicator, empathetic, unbiased, non-judgmental, and professional in demeanor. Performs a full range of procedural and administrative duties for Social Work Service. Exercises independent judgment in the performance of duties and is relied upon to complete duties in a timely and effective manner. Works on multiple assignments simultaneously to accomplish goals set. Resolves both employee and patient complaints utilizing current Medical Center policies and procedures. Oversees the credentialing and privileging process for all social work staff in the Medical Center. This involves maintaining a record of the licenses/certificates of the professional staff so that they are given notice by which date these must be renewed in order to meet the requirements of the Human Resource Service.
