The role you’ll contribute:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs examinations according to established protocols while rendering safe and compassionate care to the patient. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is to assist the physician and/or other clinical staff in performing procedures by utilizing the skills and equipment specific to their profession.

Knowledge of all aspects of Nuclear Medicine exams & Nuclear Cardiology exams including therapeutic protocols/procedures, SPECT CT imaging and QA as required on all imaging and ancillary equipment.
Assists physicians in performance of exams/procedures
Performs duties in compliance with universal precaution, infection control, medical records charting/documentation and patient safety requirements.
Obtain required consents, review for accuracy, completeness & verifies information prior to procedure.
Formulate, calibrate & administer radiopharmaceuticals according to diagnostic & therapeutic protocols.
Completes medical records according to policy and procedures for exams being performed and transmission of electronic imaging to PACS.
Troubleshoots equipment in the event of error, failure, complications, or downtime & follows procedures during such events.
Assess patient abilities to perform tasks for ordered exam, adjusts as needed to provide safe environment for patient & transfers patient with care & comfort.
Maintains viable venous access during exams requiring administration of IV materials.
Qualifications
You will be responsible for:
Performs Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Imaging studies
Handles, administers, calculates dosage and prepares Radionuclides as required
Maintains records in accordance with departmental policy and procedures as well as within state requirements
Performs basic patient care within scope of practice and to departmental standards
Assists in Radiology department as needed
Markets to local area physician referral base to promote PET/CT
Responsibility to adhere to the Florida Hospital Corporate compliance plan, to the rules and regulations of all local, state, and Federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies
Positions patient and equipment, changes collimators, selects technical factor and processes data to produce images meeting Radiologist standards, in a safe and timely manner
Processes images with correct patient demographic and examination information. Submits images, with adequate clinical information for review by Radiologist, as appropriate
Uses Syncor computer to maintain radioactive material records as well as quality assurance records, disposal records as required by department policy and State regulations
Acts as Radiation Safety Officer for Florida Hospital Imaging
Assists in disaster or other emergencies dealing with possible radioactive material contamination
Maintains radioactive materials records as well as quality assurance records, disposal records as required by department policy and State regulations
Performs daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly surveys, quality assurance testing and calibrations as required by State regulations
Uses Cerner HIS to enter and access patient information correctly and to change procedure status and billing.
Performs clerical duties, including answering telephone, completing patient record
Transports, lifts, moves and positions patients as needed to properly and safely complete procedures, to assist others to and from, as well as within the department or to assist patient movement
Operates all equipment and uses Radioactive Materials in a safe and effective manner, with proper attention to radiation, electrical and mechanical safety
Performs direct patient care duties within technologistâ™s scope of practice. Utilizes proper infection control and BSI techniques
Performs basic patient care, including monitoring of patient condition, caring for patient comfort, safety and privacy
Obtains patient history and explains procedures
Maintains clean, well-stocked work area
Rotates though standby call on a periodic basis
Technologist may be asked to review invoices, review records with health physics consultants
May be questioned by regulatory agency inspectors. Assists with dose calculation and administration of therapeutic nuclides
Performs basic equipment maintenance, coordinating service calls as required
Assists as RSO in disaster or other emergencies dealing with possible radioactive material contamination
General imaging, record keeping and monitoring are routine but must be performed and coordinated independently
What will you need?
Must be a graduate of an A.R.R.T. or N.M.T.C.B approved program with current A.R.R.T. or N.M.T.C.B. registration
Current Florida Nuclear Medicine license
BLS required
A.R.R.T or N.M.T.C.B. registration
Newly graduated technologist should be able to work unattended shift, with only occasional guidance needed within six months
Experienced technologist should be able to work independently in one month
Must be able to move, operate and properly use all Nuclear Medicine equipment and cameraâ™s including computers, collimators, color printers, survey meters, dose calibrators, dose management computer system, Cerner HIS system and Agfa PACS system
Must be able to independently perform Nuclear Medicine procedures to Radiologistsâ™ and Cardiologistsâ™ standards.
Must be able to use computer system for data entry and retrieval
Patient care and communication skills to deal with patients from infant through geriatric age groups
Basic clerical skills as needed for record keeping and documentation
Mature judgment is frequently required in dealing with patients, public, physicians and co-workers
Must be able to adjust workload as needed due to emergency studies scheduled
Calm careful behavior is necessary when dealing with situations such as critically ill patients or in the event of a code or other emergency
Any significant change in patient condition required accurate judgment with appropriate actions
Must be able to act properly in case of a radioactive Material contamination, emergency or disaster
Technologist must be able to exercise independent judgment in assessment of exam quality, patient conditions and need for repeat images or variance from routine
Must be able to assess and maintain workflow in Nuclear Medicine
Must use proper judgment regarding need for communication regarding patient care, workflow or other issues
Associate Degree (preferred)
