Summary of Position
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Airborne Hazards & Burn Pits Center of Excellence (AHBPCE) and the Kessler Foundation are recruiting a full-time clinical exercise physiologist to provide advanced cardiopulmonary services and assist with research protocols and collaboration between the two centers. This position will split time between the AHBPCE and the Kessler Foundation which are less than 5 miles apart.

The AHBPCE is a national VA Center of Excellence that specializes in clinical and translational research that uses scientific insights to help improve the health outcomes in Veterans. Position located at the East Orange VA Medical Center in East Orange, NJ.
Kessler Foundation is a global leader in rehabilitation research seeking to improve cognition, mobility, and long-term outcomes for adults and children with neurological and developmental disabilities of the brain and spinal cord. Position located at the West Orange Campus in West Orange, NJ.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research
- Screen research participants for eligibility criteria
- Obtain written informed consent
- Collect physiological data in accordance with standardized protocols
- Collect neuropsychological and functional neuroimaging data in accordance with standardized protocols
- Process, transport, and ship biospecimens
- Data entry and analysis using specialized software (R, SPSS, MATLAB, etc.)
Clinical
- Collect and interpret ventilatory, gas-exchange and hemodynamic parameters during exercise
- Acquire and interpret 12-lead ECG
- Perform pulmonary function testing meeting American Thoracic and European Respiratory Society Standards
- Summarize and present results of cardiopulmonary function studies to specialty providers, clinicians, and patients
Other Responsibilities
- Support the mission of the AHBPCE and Kessler Foundation
- Collaborate with biomedical engineers and equipment vendors for troubleshooting
- Prepare and deliver educational presentations within content area of expertise
- Attend laboratory and center meetings
- Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
