SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of this job is to assist the operating surgeon by providing direct patient care as part of a perioperative (operating room) team, in performing activities such as providing wound exposure, maintaining hemostasis, manipulating tissues with surgical instrumentation (e.g. suturing, wound closure) and other related tasks. These tasks will assist the surgeon in performing optimal care to a patient during surgery. Work is performed under the direction of an operating surgeon and within the scope of practice

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

Associate's Degree required. 

NBSTSA CST Certification required. 

BLS Certification required.

Three (3) years relevant experience 

Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) certification 

Individuals must provide evidence of one of the following: Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and maintaining a Surgical Technologist certification; new graduates of accredited surgical tech programs may obtain certification within six months of graduation. Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the US Army, Navy, or Air Force. Previously employed to practice surgical technology by the hiring Penn State Health (PSH) healthcare facility on or before December 29, 2020, or had been employed to practice surgical technology as the primary function at another healthcare facility at any time during the two years prior to December 29, 2022.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S): 

NBSTSA CSFA Certification preferred.
