Performs general radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging studies. Supervises radiologic technologists in their daily performance of such imaging studies as well as clerical support staff, when assigned. Reviews and prioritizes ordered imaging studies working with radiologists, other imaging sections within Radiology, and other hospital departments to ensure effective utilization of personnel and equipment. Reviews image quality of radiologic technologists and provides counseling on how to improve image quality. Develops and maintains weekly staff work schedules for technologists and clerical support staff, when applicable. Administers annual performance evaluations on subordinates staff members and prepares/administers necessary paperwork to address progressive counseling situations.
Essential Functions:
Performs general radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging studies by selecting specific software parameters that will consistently produce a quality image for use by radiologists in their interpretation activities. (10%)
Coordinates, assigns and prioritizes radiology's orders and workload with radiologist, members from other sections of Radiology, and departments outside of Radiology to ensure effective utilization of personnel and equipment. (15%)
Develops work schedules for direct reports. Interviews new candidates for radiologic technologist positions. (5%)
Enters data, images post-processing, archiving tasks and quality assurance and assists in other related user interface activities in the PACS system. (5%)
Scans all relevant clinical information into the PACS, on a per case basis, assigns prioritization box for the radiologists' work lists, and then transmits current (and comparison images, when applicable) to the PACS. (5%)
Manages employees, which includes conducting annual performance reviews for direct reports. All performance reviews must be completed prior to due date, performing monthly one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss daily activities, identifying potential problem issues with regard to the delivery of care, and opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction. On a quarterly basis, assesses direct reports on knowledge and application of AIDET principles. (5%)
Reviews PACS Quality Control (PACS QC) reports related to quality assurance as well as Safety Intelligence (SI) reports. (5%)
Counsels radiologic technologists who are responsible for PACS QC incidents in terms of how to perform high quality images, use appropriate identifiers, and conform to relevant imaging protocols. (5%)
Investigates all reported SI incidents and submits results of these investigations to Imaging Manager for input into Denver Health's SI reporting system. (5%)
Inputs patient examination data and places patient orders. (5%)
Transports patients to and from the Department of Radiology, as needed, to prevent patient flow delays. (5%)
Assesses potential budget variances (positive and negatives). (5%)
Prepares and assists in administering contrast agents and determines any potential allergies to ensure compliance with departmental practices. (5%)
Notates within the appropriate electronic/hardcopy document, as necessary, all pertinent patient information to comply with patient screening, ordering, charting, and medical record requirements (e.g., Epic's "Ticket to Ride" electronic handoff document, Radiology's hardcopy pregnancy questionnaire). (5%)
Oversees the maintenance of department inventory by directing staff to order, stock, and perform inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing general radiographic examinations. (5%)
Oversees maintenance of imaging equipment by ensuring that scheduled preventative maintenance activities are performed. Contacts service personnel and notifies Radiology's senior management staff of equipment malfunctions. (5%)
Maintains a clean and orderly working environment. (5%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Work Experience:
1-3 years Of professional work experience in the role as a radiologic technologist Required and
Supervisory experience preferred.
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required and
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skill in exercising initiative, judgment and decision-making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives.
Knowledge of supervisory theory and methods sufficient to be able to perform a variety of supervisory functions.
Knowledge in how to operate general radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment and related technology.
Competency in the performance of general radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging studies.
Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients. Effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.
Competency in interpreting physician order requests for general radiographic/ fluoroscopic imaging studies.
Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.
Proficient in MS Office Suite.
Epic preferred.
