The DRT Supervisor will be responsible for clinical, research, and educational duties to assure latest techniques, advancements, and continuing education training are provided to the staff technologist. While working in each area of Radiology Service, participates in all aspects of the mission of the medical center, including clinical service, education and research.. Assists the management team with the collection of statistical data needed to monitor and improve the clinical service. BASIC REQUIREMENTS. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).NOTE: Assignment to the clinical program director requires meeting JRCERT minimum educational standards as noted in the assignment description. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. Grade Determinations: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10 (1) Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-9) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level which are: i.*Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks and responsibilities. ii. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. iii. *Skill in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees. iv. *Ability to consult with radiologist to develop standard and non-standard treatment/exam protocols. v. Ability to independently perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations (2) The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): i. *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. ii. Coordinates patient flow that involves working with other units to work out problems and changes that affects outside organizations. Recommends to higher authority changes that may increase costs or affect employees' status, limit services rendered, or affect work outside the diagnostic section. C. Monitors changes in workload demand including justifying changes in staffing levels, priorities and deadlines. Develops estimates of budget requirements based on experience, anticipated workload and production capability of work force and submits to administrative Officer. D. Coordinates and supervises quality assurance activities of technical staff. Coordinates and supervises in-service education programs of the technical staff. E. Ensures adequate supplies to meet workload demands. Responsible for seeing that technologists keep the special cabinets in all rooms stocked with necessary supplies at all times with special attention to emergency equipment. F. Assigns employees to positions and/or work assignments based on consideration of several factors including the difficulty and type of work, availability, capability and experience. Issues oral and written instructions for non-routine or more complex assignments. Resolves scheduling and back-up coverage problems on off-hour and weekend shifts and is responsible for vacation coverage on these shifts. Assists in providing coverage when unexpected staff shortages occur during regular and irregular tours-of-duty. Performs all duties of radiologic technologists when required. G. Participates in setting performance a standard. Reviews work in progress as well as when complete regarding problems in accuracy, quality, adherence to procedures, and takes corrective action as necessary. H. Keeps communication lines open to ensure that management goals and objectives are passed on to employees and that management is informed of employee concerns. I. Advises supervisor and/or maintenance representative of any problems with equipment and follows up to insure necessary repairs are accomplished. J. Prepares requests for filling of vacancies. Participates in selection of employee from approved applicants. K. Approves or disapproves requests for leave requests for technical staff taking into consideration staffing levels and appropriate coverage on all shifts. L. Prepares formal requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments, quality increases or other performance awards. M. Takes disciplinary action as deemed necessary and proposes to higher authority a specific disciplinary action based on the problem and facts, i.e., suspension, demotions, letters of warning, removal, etc. N. Formulates training plans for assigned employees including orientation of new employees. Recommends formal training when the need is apparent and officially recommends employees for formal training courses. O. Conducts staff meetings reviewing policies, rules and regulations, procedures and discusses changes in routines and other related subjects. P. Responsible for all safety regulations and practices in Radiology Service. Ensures proper documentation of accidents occurring to employees, patients or visitors. Q.
