Job Summary
Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for the ERS Tumor Registry System. Compiles and, maintains statistical diagnostic and treatment information on all cancer patients. Performs all the functions of Denver Health's Cancer Registry, including case finding, case coding and abstracting, follow-up, data entry, State and all other required data reporting, and Cancer Conference (Tumor Boards). Disseminates information in accordance with professional ethics and ensures confidential information integrity. Generates and submits state reports once a month to greater Department of Medicine Leadership. Attends and prepares agenda for Tumor Conference once per week and performs all requested follow up tasks. Attend Cancer Committee once per month. Oversees the daily operation of the Cancer Registry and ensures compliance with all requirements to achieve and maintain an accredited cancer program as set forth by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Accountable for reporting and managing any identified areas of non-compliance. Supports preparation of annual reports, patient care evaluation studies, and calls for data as required. Creates special reports as requested.

Essential Functions:
Reviews provisional pathology log and document positive cases. (5%)
Reviews death certificates and diagnostic indices. (5%)
Maintains case file including information retrieved through case finding reviews. (5%)
Abstracts and codes required Information in the ERS system. Standard is 10 per week. (5%)
Monitors compliance for abstract completion with other cancer registry team members, permanent or contract. (5%)
Performs monthly audits on completed work to ensure quality of work and abstract submissions. (5%)
Empowered to educate in the setting if incomplete or incorrect work performance from other cancer registry team members. (5%)
Responsible for on-boarding and training of other cancer registry team members. (5%)
Participate in interviews and provide recommendations on hiring candidates. (5%)
Accesses imaging, SSI death index, Vital Records, sending out monthly patient and physician letters; standard is 4 per hour; follow up must be done the first week of each month. (5%)
Submits monthly transfer of total cases based on date of first contact to State Registry to maintain compliance with State timeliness standard and current completeness standard of analytic cases. (5%)
Responsible for maintaining user account in CStar program (5%)
Develops and maintains relationship with the State Cancer Registry and implements updated program requirements determined by local and national governing bodies. (5%)
Submits weekly production log each Monday containing production stats for the previous week. (5%)
Gathers positive cases. (5%)
Retrieves information from pathology provisional list and cytology slips every Monday before the conference. (5%)
Serves as primary contact and liaison between the oncology physicians and cancer registry program (5%)
Documents patient social information (age, site, location, diagnosis), add any additional comments, name of presenter and case information. (5%)
Prepares agenda, make copies and distribute appropriately (5%)
Monthly clears all errors from abstracts completed in ERS. (5%)
Submits abstracts to state and produce reports for statistical reporting. (0%)
Through Denver Health's data warehouse assists with Research data needed by any provider for grants or certification purposes. (0%)
Provides appropriate medical records in a timely manner. (0%)
Acknowledges all requests and assure appropriate response in a timely manner. (0%)
Delegates reporting requests as appropriate (0%)
Identifies the specifics of the requests before retrieving the information. (0%)
Provides the requestor with the information already available in the Tumor Registry before retrieving the information. (0%)
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
Five years of experience in Cancer Registry field or similar work required.
1-3 years One year of medical billing/coding experience preferred.
Maintain current CE hours to maintain CTR. Possess good computer keyboarding skills.
Knowledge of Tumor Registry laws, regulations and procedures.
Participate in training workshops, department and section meetings.
Possess good oral and written communication skills.
Possess ability to coach and mentor additional team members.
Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Capable of reading and interpreting coding guidelines and making subsequent coding decisions.
Knowledgeable in researching coding related topics and issues. Ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
Resourcefulness in problem solving and analytical thinking; shows accountability and able to take and follow through with delegated tasks with minimal direction from supervisor; flexibility in responding to multiple demands.
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
Proficient in Microsoft office suite to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Epic experience and CRStar by ERS experience, preferred.
