Job Summary
Under the direction of a radiologist, performs computed tomographic (CT) examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a CT technologist.
Essential Functions:
Performs high quality CT imaging studies by selecting specific software parameters that will produce a quality image for use by radiologists in their determination of a diagnosis. Lack of negative complaints from radiologists about inadequately performed CT examinations indicates the standard has been exceeded. More than 3 complaints per year about image quality indicate failure to meet the standard. (45%)
Prepares and administers contrast media for patient examinations according to radiologists’ direction. Technologist must ensure that the IV catheter, if used, is of the appropriate type, size, as well as in the correct location for contrast administration by means of an injector. Technologists must test injector with saline prior to contrast injection. The technologist must be in the room at the beginning of contrast injection. (20%)
Operates, on a day-to-day basis, PACS applications to include: archiving activities; image auto-routing; and pre-fetching tasks; image quality assurance and other related activities. (5%)
Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. Uses Radiology Information System (RIS) system to input patient examination data and to place patient orders, when appropriate. (10%)
Verifies the physician order and relevant patient’s history in the medical chart. Prior to performance of a CT examination, consults with the relevant radiologist to obtain a written imaging study protocol. (5%)
In order to provide the necessary information for radiologists to interpret imagthe technologist scans all relevant clinical information into the PACS, assigns prioritization box for the radiologists’ work list, and then transmits current (and comparison images, when applicable) to the PACS. These activities must be completed immediately following examination completion, not to exceed 1 hour. (5%)
Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing CT examinations. (5%)
Maintains imaging and processing equipment by performing scheduled cleanings and tests; results of all cleanings and tests are documented, as appropriate. Contacts service personnel and notifies supervisory staff of equipment malfunctions. (5%)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge in how to operate CT equipment and related technology.
Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients.
Demonstrated technical skill sets in the performance of CT studies.
Demonstrable interpersonal skill sets that lead to effective communication and collaborations.
Competency in interpreting physician order requests for CT imaging studies.
Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.

Work Experience:
less than 1 year 1 year of professional work experience in performing radiographic procedures, including 6 months experience in undertaking CT imaging studies. Required
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
